Žitný ostrov (Rye Island)
is located in southwestern Slovakia and is the largest river island in Europe. It is bordered by the Danube, Little Danube, and Váh. It is a huge water reservoir and one of the most agriculturally fertile areas of Slovakia. Typical for this area is the cultivation of warm-weather crops - sugar beet, corn, rapeseed and various types of fruits and vegetables. In terms of tourism, the most visited places are Dunajská Streda, Veľký Meder, where there are many thermal swimming pools. A popular place is also the Gabčíkovo Water Works directly by excursion boat from Čilistov Kormoran Port near Bratislava. Along the entire water works there is also a cycling trail directly on the dam, from where there is a beautiful view of the entire panorama. Rest, relaxation, sports facilities and traditional dishes are offered by Hotel Kormorán**** in Šamorín - Čilistov near the port as part of the cycle route.
